I used to play World of Warcraft from the launch of the game ('Vanilla WoW') up to the release of the Trial of the Crusade raids (patch 3.2). By that time, the game had become boring and repetitive for me, and the guilds I was in didn't do raids anymore - which was the only thing that was still interesting. I tried Aion Online for a bit but didn't like it much (disappointing graphics, a big grind, small world, many spammers and bots, not much fun/humour). So I remain MMO-less for a while. Maybe Star Wars: the Old Republic is gonna be good, we'll see. |

Because I wanted to write a little online loot tool (never finished) I needed WoW's icon images.
But these are stored in a rather unusable format. I wrote a little tool to convert Blizzard BLP texture images to png or tga format because the ones I could find were not working or not doing what I wanted.
You can download it here if you like: Blpconvert.zip (Win32 executable).
It is able to process a whole directory of blp's at once and is very fast.
If you want to compile it yourself, the source code is available on request (C++).
BLP images can be extracted from the game files using Blizzard's Interface Addon Kit, and additional images are available in Blizzard's Wow Fansite Kit.
Also there's a useful page on Allakhazam
that contains some links to a huge icon file and an XML item list dump that could be handy.
